The Nourishing Streams of Carmel

I have found a reminder of how our Carmelite saints nourish the Church at large way beyond the Carmelite Order in the attractive website run by the Congregation of the Apostolic Carmel.  This congregation (I have mentioned it before) was founded in Bayonne, France, by an English convert named Sophie Leeves (1823-1906 who became Mother Mary Veronica of the Passion) under the guidance of Bishop Marie Ephrem OCD.  Both of these individuals moved to India and the Congregation flourished in India and elsewhere thereafter. ‘The little seed sown in the heart of Mother Veronica … has now grown into a mighty tree, its branches spreading over the length and breadth of India and Sri Lanka, and reaching even to Pakistan, Kuwait, Rome, Kenya and the Philippines. Rooted in the contemplative spirit of Carmel, and nourished by its life of prayer and missionary zeal, the Apostolic Carmel expresses the vitality of the Church through its fruitfulness in the active apostolate of education and other works of mercy.’ [courtesy of apostoliccarmel.com]

The Richness of Dreams
