In Rome representatives of the Discalced Carmelite Sisters have been meeting to discuss revision of their Constitutions, and they were recently addressed by the Holy Father. In his allocution he quotes the holy mother St Teresa of Avila's Interior Castle. He reminds the Sisters that their calling is not some kind of flight into a refuge from the world, for they allow themselves to be touched by the love of Christ and union with him, so that his love can pervade their entire existence and find expression in all that they say and do. I guess this is our vocation too as Seculars, and I like the reminder that what we must do is to allow God entrance into the deepest depths of our lives. Or, as St Elizabeth of the Trinity liked to say, Let yourselves be loved.
