Busyness and prayer

'Every Christian needs a half hour of prayer each day, except when he is busy, then he needs an hour'. I just came across this quote from that beautiful French saint Francis of Sales (1567-1622), who was born as our St Teresa was in the early phase of her reforming work. St Francis of Sales loved Teresa and quoted her often. I love this saying because of the touch of humour and the paradox that the more we have to do, the more we should find time for prayer. Personally I find it extremely difficult to implement the recommendation when I myself am particularly busy, but I applaud the sentiment, I know it is very wise. Perhaps I will be given the grace to put it into practice eventually ....
