Called to Hope

I have received notification of a big conference on S            t Therese of Lisieux to be held at the Boars Hill Carmelite Priory in July (11-12) in connection with the centenary of her canonisation.  The conference will celebrate St Therese and mark the centenary year of her canonisation. The theme of the conference is Called to Hope: Saint Therese of Lisieux for Today.  They tell me that the aim in this conference is to enable people to have a contemplative awareness, informed and inspired by biblical tradition(s) and Carmel. The approach is both academic and also, most importantly, that of the Carmelite mission of making God known and loved, and helping people in their spiritual life. For this reason, the conference aims to provide not only top-class lectures but also an experience of prayer, both personal and liturgical, for the participants.  I must admit that I am somewhat intrigued by this combination of academic and prayerful.  So often the two aspects are kept separate – a conference is either academic or prayerful.  For information about the conference google oxcacs and you will get to the stie of the Centre of Applied Carmelite Spirituality which is hosting the conference.

Intercessions:

Marie, Bernard, Agnes – cancer

Siena, Elara – sick children

Rosemarie – multiple afflictions

New baby Duncan – health issues

RIP Fr John Hughes OCD

An archbishop teaches contemplative prayer

I need do little more today than reproduce an extract from today’s Office of Readings, which seems to me to be perfect for a Carmelite.  Not to mention that it was written by a man who served in these

A new Manchester saint?

In our new Manchester OCDS group somebody mentioned the name of Pedro Ballester, previously unknown to me, as a potential Manchester saint.  I did some research and discovered that he was Pedro Balles
