Carmel is many, Carmel is one

On this Feast of St Elizabeth of the Trinity OCD (1880-1906), I will content myself with presenting a couple of quotes from her.  First, speaking of her life in the Carmelite convent of Dijon, she said: "I can't find words to express my happiness. Here there is no longer anything but God. He is All; He suffices and we live by Him alone" (Letter 91).  This is the spirit of St John of the Cross – nothing but God, nothing at all but God.  We are to (aspire to) rely wholly on Him, we are to (aspire to) live wholly for Him and look at our lives here on earth as preparing us to be with Him.  "I find Him everywhere while doing the wash as well as while praying."  This is very much the spirit of St Teresa – finding God among the pots and pans.  I marvel at the unity and simplicity in the thought of Carmel down the centuries.
