Remote followers

Belonging to wider communities has always been a problem for individuals living in remote or semi-remote locations. The Seculars traditionally had a category called Isolates, persons living the Carmelite Way but without coming to the regular meetings. I have been thinking about that because we were recently contacted by someone living in one of the large number of smaller islands that are part of the UK. With the growth of technologies like zoom and what's app, the issue of remoteness has the potential to be at least partially overcome. One of the graces arising from the recent pandemic was surely the spread of the use of these technologies. If we couldn't be physically together, we could be together on screen - and surely there have been blessings in that. Perhaps we are just at the start of the new internet world. Its potential for evil is well known, but we can also lay hold of its potential for good.
