The adventure of faith

I had a long chat yesterday with K, who is preparing to be received into formation soon.  We talked about how she had got to this point in her life, and I was reminded about how the spiritual journey is an adventure.  So many people pursue adventures of the senses – thrills, exciting panoramas, adrenalin rushes, but the adventures of the spirit are much more fulfilling.  Moreover they are not dependent on physical fitness or ability to travel or financial resources.  Also spiritual sharing is such a joy – learning from each other about the ways of God with us and gaining encouragement from that.  And that helps us to prepare to meet the Lord.  Somebody asked me if I had a bucket list of things to do before I die – I guess he meant doing the Taj Mahal or the Niagara Falls or the Trans-Siberian railway or stuff like that.  I told him it had never occurred to me: my life is not about cramming in experiences but about drawing closer to the God whom I will meet face to face one day.
