A Problem with the internet

I am one of those persons who delight in the internet because of its power of bringing people together over distance – email for example is such a pleasant and speedy means of communication.  Zoom makes for all sorts of interesting experiences.  Now with all these internet tools available I can feel much closer to my son living in San Francisco.  To think that a couple of hundred years ago when family members emigrated across the Atlantic, people might never see them again or hear from them again!  But I observe in our Carmelite communities that the use of the internet does divide as well as connect – in the sense that although most people have some internet abilities, there are quite a few individuals who just don’t have the capacity to learn the technology and work with it.  I don’t have a remedy for this, but I mention it because we always need to be sensitive to the situation of others.  We need to avoid a divide developing between the ‘internet rich’ and the ‘internet poor’.
