Carmel and trends

I am allowing myself a gentle smile right now because on one of the (very helpful) Catholic websites I occasionally consult to learn about the saint of the day, there is a section headed ‘Trending saints’.  When I saw this, I thought to myself: “What next?  A saints’ hit parade?”  I have always considered myself as a bit counter-cultural, a bit of a rebel against the trends of the day, and that was (a very small) part of the attraction of Carmel to me.  I was going to say at this point that of course Carmel is absolutely indifferent towards the trends of the day - but I realised straightaway that this would be a mistake.  The very fact that we have this blog on our website and that I am writing it now illustrates our sensitivities to the modern world of electronic technology.  And we have to take advantage of the good aspects of that.  A dozen people living in different parts of the country met on our Virtual (internet) Carmel Community last night and shared in an excellent meeting.  Graces can be found in all sorts of places in this world.
