A John of the Cross event

News reaches me of an event this Summer which will be of great interest to Carmelites everywhere.  Here is the announcement: ‘MYSTICISM: PARADISE LOST OR

PROMISED LAND. John of the Cross Saint and Doctor of the Church

John of the Cross was canonized on December 27, 1726. Two hundred years later,

on August 24, 1926, Pius XI proclaimed him a Doctor of the Universal Church. The year

2026, therefore, marks a double centenary for the holy doctor of the Teresian Carmel.

For this reason, the Order of Discalced Carmelites wishes to propose a reflection on

Christian mysticism within the context of this centenary commemoration through a

four-day congress.  The first day, June 22, will take place in Rome, at the Teresianum, and can be followed online from Ávila. From June 24 to 26, the congress will move to Ávila, to the International Teresiano-Sanjuanista Center.  All sessions can be followed live online,

and simultaneous translation will be available in three languages: Spanish, English, and Italian.  The contact email given is mistica2026@gmail.com

St Mary Magdalen dei Pazzi O.Carm (1566-1607 – feast day today) was a much younger Italian contemporary of St Teresa; her incorrupt body remains in the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Florence.
