Spiritual sharing

I have always delighted in the closeness to others that comes with spiritual sharing – conversation about our experiences of God, about our spiritual quest, about our delights and the obstacles we encounter along the road of faith, about the lessons we have learnt and are learning.  There is something precious about being trusted by another person with such intimate and personal matters.  I came to Carmel partly in hopes of finding a community in which this might be possible and I have not been disappointed.  On the contrary, I have received many graces in our sessions.  But meetings need to keep to a structure and a timetable because it is all too easy to let the conversation take over and squeeze the prayer time down.  Also, when we get to know each other well we can become something of a clique and that may deter newcomers.  May God keep our communities from becoming inward-looking or cliquey.
